Prep for Barn Remodeling and Barn Repairs

Rest assured. The sturdy barns built by Lester Buildings and Sapphire Construction provide superior structural integrity. The engineering results in a complete building system. The system meets or exceeds local building wind and snow code requirements. Those values do not include an owner’s decision to hang weighty items from the trusses after the fact. Not just a building with engineered components, we design and build completely engineered pole barns.

Pole Barn Remodeling

Our barns last a lifetime. Naturally, owners may decide to repurpose all or parts of the barn. A stable could be added to a garage, for example. The owner may want in addition to grow a business or park up boat.

If the building came from our company, we would go back to the drawing board to modify the plans. An adjoining building could be an option. A remodel might include adding a second story, adding a row of horse stables, and installing in a kitchen. Our engineers, being familiar with the original barn, could suggest the most effective routes.

We also do barn remodels for unfamiliar structures, adapting our engineering to bolster the present structure. These projects require that we examine the present structure in detail and insert the measurements and stats into our design software. Our customers see in real time the options, changes, and price difference for their ideas.

Prevent Costs of Weather DamageBarn Remodeling

Of course, you’d rather avoid the hassle and expense of repairs caused by the weather. So, be alert. If harsh weather is on the way, close every single door to withstand maximum load values. Lester reminds us it is important to ask your insurance company to review the policy every few years to be sure it reflects the current costs of repairs.

Repairing Damaged Pole Barns

Older barns, though often charming, can sustain damages over the decades. Keep up with general maintenance. If your barn withstands an extreme weather event, such as baseball-size hail or a fallen tree, then immediate steps must be taken. We checked out an article entitled “4 Steps to Prepare Pole Barn Damage” by Lester Buildings and want to pass on a bit of advice.

4 Steps after Storm Damage

1. Assess damage to your pole building. Examine the foundation, the walls, roof, doors, and windows from the outside and document any damage you find. Take photos and log the date of the incident. Do the same thing for the inside of the barn.

2. Contact Sapphire Construction or Lester Buildings (if we built the barn) to evaluate the situation. Some repairs may fall under the Lifetimes Structural Warranty. Price estimates for repairs can be worked out.

3. Contact your insurance company and file a claim. If you prefer to deal directly with Sapphire Construction or Lester Buildings to cover minor damage yourself, let us know.

4. Schedule repairs after the claim is settled.
