Traits of Arabian Horses

Let’s get to know these fantastic horses. One of the most beloved of all horse breeds, the Arabian horse come to the United States from the Middle East and North Africa. For 3,500 years, the Bedouin nomads traveled the Arabian Peninsula. They bred horses as companions, cultivating in them intelligence, kindness, and a cooperative spirit. Arabians supplied companionship during long journeys, and they still expect personal attention from their masters.

In addition, the statuesque Arabian has strong muscles and bones. Always on guard, the horse’s wide-set eyes and sensitive ears readily pick up signs of danger. The same sensitivity may also result in a hot temper. The characteristic large lungs and wide nostrils lend the Arabian breed extraordinary endurance also.

Arabians thrive in dry climates, including high deserts around the Rocky Mountains. Measuring 57-61 inches at the shoulder, Arabian horses weigh between 800 and 1000 pounds.
