The “Posts” in Central Colorado Post Frame Buildings

There’s a lot to learn about post frame buildings in Central Colorado.  That’s exactly why Sapphire Construction in Castle Rock teams up with Lester Buildings.  Our combined expertise enables us to offer property owners in Douglas County, Jefferson County, Elbert County and El Paso County state-of-the-art engineering and design for post frame buildings.

Post frame buildingsPost frame architecture is suitable for commercial and residential buildings and outbuildings. The post frame building design is more efficient and takes less time than traditional construction.  Beautiful horse barns, garages and automotive shops, retail stores, and farm pole barns as well as city buildings, industrial enterprises, churches, and agricultural operations benefit from the post-frame style and method.

Post-Frame Building Standards

Post frame buildings are composed of very large solid-sawn posts or laminated columns.  In a post frame structure, the “posts” function as the major structural columns in the foundation. The design may also include additional protection of the wood posts available through plastic barrier systems.  Usually, the posts are embedded in soil or they are surface-mounted to concrete piers or masonry foundations.

Post frame buildingsThese posts provide for an interlocking frame. It is more stable than stud-wall construction. The building’s transfer load is stabilized between the roof trusses or rafters and these important posts.  In addition, the post-frame construction allows for a very large, uninterrupted interior.  The extra space allows for more installation space, which is needed for buildings in the Central Colorado area.

What is a Post?

There are many types of posts performing these duties. A solid-sawn post is a single piece of lumber. There are also composite lumber posts, glued laminated posts, mechanically laminated posts, nail laminated posts, screw-laminated posts and spliced posts, among others.  Specific posts are modified to provide support in the end walls, sidewall, corners, and around doors, windows, and framed openings.

Quality of Posts Matters

The design of Lester Buildings includes anchoring to resist the uplift forces caused by lateral loads or wind and snow.  In addition to incorporating post frame building design, our buildings are built with top-quality lumber and steel. The lumber used for our posts is treated and comes with a 50-year warranty, and the steel for 40 years.
