Montessori School Buildings in Colorado

Pole barn construction results in perfect Montessori school buildings in Colorado. Come tour the possibilities. Whether you need help finding vacant real estate or you spotted a country home or farm along the front range, Sapphire Construction can help you turn the chosen property into an educational paradise for children.  We do it all of the time for horses and, believe it or not, their needs are pretty similar!

Montessori Materials

The concept of Montessori schools allows children to move around. No more rows of desks facing a chalkboard and teacher standing in the front of the room. The Montessori method is based on experiential/hands-on materials that attract the attention of children and inspire them to learn. Simple steps of learning concepts are calibrated into the materials. And it is true that children exposed to hands-on learning from a young age reap the benefits throughout life.

School Buildings in ColoradoIt is possible to open your own Montessori school. Our Founder Dr. Maria Montessori designed intriguing materials. These sets of physical materials are placed on low shelves where children can reach them.  A teacher shows the child how to work with a lesson and then the child does it himself.

Have you heard of the hundred cube, the thousand chains, and the binomial cube?  After learning about counting one, two, and three, etc., the child sees individual beads strung together in groups of 10. Then 10 X 10 and then 10 X 10 X 10 or the hundred cube.  The binomial cube offers a physical representation of an algebraic equation. “A” squared plus “B” squared equals “C” squared.

School Design

School Buildings in ColoradoThe building may stand alone or be an adjunct to an existing home or barn.  The floor plan is flexible over time.  So let’s start with some ideas.  If I build school buildings in Colorado, I would add a portico to facilitate dropping off and picking up the children.  An large entry room would provide a place for each child to have a locker or cubby.

We need a couple of offices, an adult restroom, two children’s restrooms, and a kitchen area.  Because I enroll children under age three, we need a nap room doubling as a reading room or library.  Behind the scenes, we also need a storage area with floor to ceiling shelving.

The center of the building can be one large space with lots of windows for natural light.  Add Montessori materials on beautiful wood grain shelving and I am ready to greet the children.

Areas of Montessori School

A wide open pole building span allows teachers to keep an eye on young children as they work with lessons in partitioned sections of the classroom.  Montessori preschools assign areas for the following types of activities:

  1. Practical Life
  2. Sensorial Development
  3. Geography
  4. Reading
  5. Math
  6. Language
  7. Art
  8. Lunchroom
  9. Circle
