Facilities for training horses often include equestrian riding arenas Colorado.  Arenas and pens allow trainers better control and give horses a sense of security during training. Riding academies and centers usually feature large indoor riding arenas but the facilities may also be open air, which limits year-round training.  Riding arenas are also used during the many local competitive rodeos and equestrian events and performances.

How large do horse arenas need to be?  Schools of thought vary in the equine world.  If a single 4-H student will be using natural horsemanship, then perhaps a simple round pen with a 20-foot radius will do.  To exercise more than one horse, however, a rectangular shape is preferred.   Our pole building designs begin at 12 feet wide and 20 feet long.

A large rectangular-shaped open area can be achieved by using pole barn construction methods.  The pole barn can be built without solid walls for an outdoor arena.  In Colorado, walls are preferred so that trainers may achieve constancy through being able to train throughout all seasons.

Pole barns allow for a 90-foot span of uninterrupted space.  For private use, a homeowner could erect a building of at least 50 feet by 90 feet.  These barns could be lengthened to any size, adding space for stables, tack, offices, or garages.

Commercial Equestrian Arenas

In order to accommodate multiple horses and trainers, commercial equine facilities multiply the size of facilities.  Facilities hosting the general public include spaces larger than 150 feet by 300 feet.  These often include indoor bleachers with dozens of nearby stalls.  Our designers can accommodate buildings up to 24 feet high, 120+ feet wide without interior poles, and endless length.
