Did You Buy any Unique Cars from Hackenberger’s Sale?

The massive collection of unique cars on display at the Ron Hackenburger auction were once slated for a museum.  Now the variety of vehicles—buggies, bumper cars, busses, cars, motorcycles, scooters, tractors, trucks, vans included—is being disbursed around the country.  Were you there?  Did you pick up the 1948 Studebaker?  And do you still need an automotive shop to fix it up?

Mr. Hackenberger stashed away relics of vehicles in the 1900s for decades.  Beginning with his favorite brand and first three Studebakers, the 1948 Champion, a 1952 Champion and a 1956 Golden Hawk, Ron accumulated a couple hundred of the classic models.  (See previous blog entitled, “Fill Your Garage: Collector Auctions 700+ Cars.”)

Auction Results

The big auction was held in Norwalk, Ohio last weekend.  The no-reserve auction lasted two days.  According to a July 20, 2017 report by Andrew Newton, the results of the VanDerBrink Auctions shake down to a total of about $2 million.  That includes the sea of parts cars, muscle cars, sport cars, three-wheelers, milk trucks, ambulances, limousines.  And a couple of amphibious Amphicar 770s.

What vehicle brought the highest bid?  A restored 1947 Indian Chief with sidecar.  It sold for $37,800.  The 1965 Amphicar 770 and the 1969 Jaguar E-Type Roadster each brought in $31,500.  The 1967 Porsche 912 sold for $26,250.  Someone got the 1955 Ford Thunderbird for $26,250.  A 1949 Tatra T600 Tatraplan sold as is for $23,100. A 1954 Kaiser Darrin Roadster sold for $21,000.  Were you one of the bidders?
